Tamara's Myth

Born in the fecund depths of a riverbed, Tamara’s Myth lures the listener into other-worldly places. With soundscapes primal, mysterious and mystical, she reveals the hidden and infinitesimal things we saw as children that we held in awe and have forgotten - a timelessness and a quest for connection in a world where bejeweled cobwebs sparkle in places beyond the noise - waiting for the eye of a beholder.

New single "Sun God" comes out December 11th

12 years after I hummed the melody to get my baby son to sleep, the cycle is complete and the song and my first music video will be released on his birthday!

About the song "Sun God"

We are facing great changes in the world around us, warring on the Earth and on ourselves. Through our eyes, connected to our ancestors we call out to the Gods for help, but we must have a reckoning within ourselves, heal, and understand that we are all connected, we are all part of this great ecosystem on planet Earth.

About the Music Video "Sun God"

The ideas and execution of the music video was a collaboration with local Tangata Whenua , with the outcome of understanding ourselves, creating partnerships and inspiring through the use of the music video and creating a dialogue on topics that matter to us. In a time of great change around the globe, this song is a call to action through peaceful change.

Woven into the Kaupapa of this project, we explored natural systems of being that are different to the ones that society currently follows, such as using the Māori system of Maramataka. Maramataka calendars highlight the connection between the moon and our wellbeing/hauora.

The assumption that our current system is the right one, may have to be questioned as we look at the systematic health of the planet with climate change.  I as an artist ask - what happens if we let some of these systems go and incorporate other beliefs/systems? Is there a better, more sustainable way forward that can lead to better outcomes for the planet, our health and well-being and our social standing?

Our current structures are often “Imagined” structures and are super-imposed on us and our bodies. They don't relate to the world and "real" tangible things around us such as the moon, our rivers, our mountains, our sky, our air, our water we drink. Therefore, we are often living in systems that are at odds with our own circadian and hormonal rhythms It is my belief that we need to show we can be vessels of change through the use of beauty and creativity, a safe open dialogue of exchange, not scare-mongering or division.

It is my goal to spread Kotahitanga/Unity so that we can tackle some of the bigger obstacles facing us in the future.

"Sun God" composed by Tamara Smith

Lyrics:

Sun God by Tamara Smith

Be still these trembling hands

For the time has come to roar

We stand on shifting sands

With the tide beating at our shore

****************************8

And they called out to the sun

Let these shadows be undone

And a seed fell like a tear

Upon the earth, cold and bare

******************************8

These lips and hips and thigh

Dunes of sand, loess and clay

Kissed by wings of a dragonfly

And pierced by a hungry blade

********************************

And they called out to the sun

Let these shadows be undone

And a seed fell like a tear

Upon the earth, cold and bare

 *********************************

This gift to you I give in blood

From cord to cord we build a tree

No salt can blind my bond

Nor depths of this endless sea

*************************************

And they called out to the sun

Let these shadows be undone

And a seed fell like a tear

Upon the earth, cold and bare

*************************************

This dappled light beats in my mind

A thousand silhouettes I am

If you could speak what would I find?

Could you ease these trembling hands?

**********************************************8

And they called out to the sun

Let these shadows be undone

And a seed fell like a tear

Was there warmth I felt just there?

*****************************************8
